Charar-i-Sharief

Charar-i-Sharief is one of the oldest, most sacred shrines here and is counted among the top historical places in Jammu and Kashmir. Built more than 600 years ago to commemorate the patron saint of Kashmiris, Sheikh Noor ud din, the wooden shrine is popular not only among Muslim devotees but also attracts a lot of Hindu believers from different parts of the country.

Charar-i-Sharief is also known as the Sheikh Noor-ud-Din Wali shrine among the locals, after another well- known saint who lived in Kashmir and visited the site to offer his Friday prayers. Followers of various religious faiths swarm here by the thousands during the annual Urs (death anniversary) to seek the blessings.
